This question is frustratingly complex and has caused many patients to abandon the whole idea of seeking a needed treatment. Part of the complexity can be attributed to the fact that everyone has unique healthcare benefits; meaning that some people may have a deductible to pay (annually or per incident), some people may have a co-pay, and some people may be responsible for a co-insurance. From a healthcare provider’s perspective this coverage would have to be verified with the insurance company and processed in accordance with the company’s specific demands. This often involves a third-party billing company to maintain compliance with coding, etc. Working with insurance companies also means that that the provider may need to be in a network that involves negotiating contracts. These negotiated contracts mean that the amount billed for physical therapy could be dependent upon the negotiating power of the entity billing for the service and will vary from one facility to another and from one patient to another. All this is just the tip of the iceberg that makes up the monstrous bureaucracy associated with the medical industrial complex. If your head is spinning, you’re not alone because mine certainly is. Understanding your coverage, being your own advocate, and asking questions can certainly help.
Keep it simple…
At Moshen we decided to utilize a much more simplified approach. Because we treat patients in a unique way (one-on-one, utilizing an app after evaluation, and only having patients come into the clinic for what they absolutely need) we don’t fit the insurance model, therefore, we don’t participate in any networks with insurance companies. Our rates are set and applied to all patients equally. We’ve found that this often comes out to be less of an out-of-pocket expense than had a patient gone to a provider that is in network with their insurance. We also think it’s important that our patients know what to expect before they walk through the door, and we never send surprise bills to patients after they have received our services.
How much do Moshen patients pay?
For a full physical therapy examination, during which time (about an hour) you are the only patient on your therapist’s schedule; AND access to our Moshen app with a customized exercise program; AND one month of continued treatment through the app involving chatting back and forth, and exercise updates; our patients pay $195. If you need to follow up in the clinic for treatments such as manual therapy, our services are billed on a per unit basis and typically cost about $60-$90 depending on how much time is involved in the treatment.
Can I still use my insurance?
Yes! We have many patients that do, and some are directly reimbursed for the full amount of their treatment. If the services provided are services that may be covered by your insurance, we will provide you with everything you need to submit a claim.
Learning about the cost of any medical procedure can be overwhelming but it shouldn’t be. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us and we’ll see if we can help.
